Tree Pruning - Structure, Forethought, & Knowledge

Expert Tree Pruning in Central Vermont

Promoting longevity and vigor through proper pruning and regular maintenance.

We Are Passionate About Tree Care

Tree-pruning is a long-standing relationship between people and trees, and it is our responsibility to nurture the trees which nurture us. Having a Certified Arborist oversee your pruning plans and implementation is to know you’re in good hands. Why prune your trees, you ask? To:

  • Promote tree health by removing dying, diseased, or hazardous dead wood;
  • Ensure structural stability
  • Mitigate risk by reducing the potential for limb or tree failure
  • Manage Photosynthetic light concentrations to the ground, gardens, or understory
  • Influence fruit or flower production
  • Improve clearance to homes and structures
  • Enhance your mountain views

Young Trees

Structural pruning in young trees is an important step in setting-up a tree for long-term success. As Arborists, we know how to develop a trunk and branching system which provides a solid foundation for future growth. Early and regular pruning reduce the long-term maintenance costs associated with poorly maintained trees.

Mature Trees

Mature trees are constantly dealing with a myriad of environmental stressors and disease pressures; thus, it is important to take great care in the planning and execution of any pruning goals. One simple and minimally-invasive way to give Mature trees some TLC is by removing dead or diseased wood, which can reduce the spread of wood-decay fungi, and has the added benefit of increasing safety to all who enjoy the tree. Some trees with over-extended branches may require specialized “Tip-weight Reduction” pruning – a method we use to reduce leverage on individual branches, while minimizing stress to the tree as a whole. In other cases, it may be best to install Cabling or Bracing systems to reduce structural failures, or to focus on soil health for increased vigor, long before we ever consider pruning.

Please give us a shout, we’d be glad to make informed management decisions about your young or mature trees!
